Traditional Split

Style: Traditional    Built: 1939

We were fortunate to acquire this home from the original family that purchased it new when it first hit the market in 1939 and can certainly understand why this house was called “home” for so long. Located within walking distance to the Kensington Farmer’s market and shops and restaurants that surround Colusa Circle, this home’s location, size and setting make it the perfect place to live and enjoy life. “Updated” along the way and hidden behind paneling, popcorn and a palate of pink was a fantastic period home ready to “Bee Renovated” and returned to its original charm.

At the heart of this home lies an unusually oversized eat-in kitchen that has been reconfigured and modernized for today's living. Stainless appliances, stone countertops, handsome cabinetry and custom tile are all included in this transformation. Large public rooms including a living room with barrel arched ceilings, gorgeous fireplace and formal dining room have been brought back to life and enhanced with detailed trim work and period details. Hidden (or what we like to term “protected”) under thick shag carpeting were original oak floors that have been exposed once again and refinished to a lustrous shine with deep, rich tones.

Remember the classic knotty pine “rumpus room” with Tiki bar? Well, this space has been transformed to include a 3rd bedroom, family room, 2nd full bath and laundry room. New french doors now provide access from the lower level to the large back yard and roomy patio. In addition, this home has received a full seismic retro fit making it even stronger and more secure.

Bee Renovated is committed to green restoration and living. A new high-efficiency furnace, new thermal windows and energy star rated appliances were installed. Low/no VOC paints were used and a majority of materials used during this restoration were reused or recycled when possible.

All was accomplished utilizing classic Bee Renovated design rules and restored to a “better than original” state appropriate for a modern lifestyle.
